When I wrote "Rewind" I wanted to capture the feelings of being trapped in a relationship without the tools to escape. Not just the pain of it -- but the balance of responsibility and righteous anger. I wanted to show what it felt like to suffocate on sunny days, sure, but I also wanted to explore the reasons I held on to a dying relationship for as long as I did. I wanted to know why I let someone hurt me, over and over, even though "the whole world knew." I didn't want to beat myself up, but I felt like I needed a pep talk, a strong reminder to take ownership for my side of things -- even, and ESPECIALLY, if my biggest mistake was self-abandonment ("how cold must the water become before I'll learn to step out of the tub").   In terms of the narrative, I wanted to find a way to share the experience of watching my day dreams fall away one by one. I wanted to be okay "as a man" talking about getting cheated on, and letting that not be embarrassing or emasculating. Most Importantly, I wanted it to end with me standing, alone, with a blank slate in front of me. I hope it connects. I hope it helps you beat fear today.  Love, Mike
